Announcement

Keeping a healthy and prosperous watershed for future generations requires active participation and direction from community members and visitors to the watershed.

The Tucson Audubon Society, Friends of Sonoita Creek, The Nature Conservancy, Sky Island Alliance, Town of Patagonia, and the University of Arizona’s Water Resources Research Center invite you to a workshop to help develop a watershed group:

When: August 6, 2024 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm

Where: Patagonia Town Hall, 310 McKeown Ave, Patagonia AZ

What: Community Workshop to Develop Work Priorities for the Sonoita Watershed Group

We will also have a Zoom meeting option for this workshop in case you are not able to attend in person, but bandwidth may limit participation for virtual attendees.

Our groups are partnering to apply for Bureau of Reclamation funding to help form a watershed restoration group and perform integrated watershed restoration planning for the Sonoita Creek Watershed.  A watershed group is a grassroots, non-regulatory entity that addresses water availability and quantity in a watershed, is capable of promoting the sustainable use of water resources, makes decisions on a consensus basis, and represents a diverse group of stakeholders.

This workshop will focus on:

  1. Provide status updates on the proposal effort
  2. Hear from other watershed groups about what they accomplish in the state
  3. Continue development of a draft mission statement and workplan to submit in proposal to Bureau of Reclamation

Survey Reminder: Prior to attending the workshop and before July 31, 2024, please take 5 to 10 minutes to complete the survey linked below. We will be using these survey results to help develop the watershed restoration group preliminary mission statement and work priorities.
