Text of press release issued late this afternoon by the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors:
Nogales, Arizona – March 10, 2025 – On Friday, March 7, County Management notified the Board of Supervisors of an alleged theft from the County Attorney’s anti-racketeering fund. Separately, the Attorney General was also notified. At the end of 2024, new auditors began a financial review of the entire county and the new risk assessment requirements contributed to the discovery of the alleged theft.
In an effort to fulfill their commitment to transparency, the Board of Supervisors would like to provide the following statement:
“The Board does not administer these funds (A.R.S. 13-2314.03), however we are available for any investigative assistance needed from the Attorney General or County Attorney Offices. The Board will hold an Executive Session on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 to discuss these matters further and seek outside counsel. Because this is an ongoing investigation, no further information is available at this time. Updates will be provided as appropriate.”
Statement from County Attorney George Silva:
“On March 7, 2025, the Santa Cruz County Attorney discovered a potential employee theft of funds from the Office’s forfeiture account. The matter was reported to the Attorney General’s Office and the County is fully cooperating with its investigation.”
