Senior Emma Lewton stole the spotlight in the girls game, notching 12 steals and 24 points to lead Patagonia to a 38-33 victory over Hayden.

Report cards are in. And both Patagonia public schools and Sonoita Elementary School have garnered improved grades as awarded by the Arizona Department of Education.

Patagonia Athletic director Nate Porter said the team’s success was a point of pride for the entire school.

The Elgin resident is enjoying the transition from being a specialist to teaching in a classroom with 13 students. “I feel blessed and so thankful to be working here,” she said.

The Patagonia High boys and girls basketball teams pack up the bus today and hit the road for one of the highlights of their regular season—a four-night stay in Williams for the Coach Edgar Brown Holiday Tournament.

Coach Michele Shadrick is counting on all-region point guard Emma Lewton and forwards Brianna Majalca and Valeria Castellanosto to lead the team.

Patagonia Elementary’s new first grade teacher is happy to be working close to her Elgin residence and with a small class size. “I feel like I am home,” she said.

“I have checked out Patagonia for years,” said Patagonia’s new high school science teacher. “I thought this would be a great place to teach, and it is.”

The first-year teacher’s fifth-grade classroom is alive with color and student projects. “I completely fell in love with the kids and curriculum,” Carrasco says. “They are just getting smarter and the teaching is so rewarding.”
