Thanks to Community

Dear Editor,

This is a letter of appreciation to all the people who made the Pie Auction a successful fundraiser! Thank you for supporting this all volunteer event.

Thank You to the bakers for donating 36 pies, and deep gratitude to the generous buyers of the pies!

A shout out to five star volunteers: David Fain, Gisa Krueger, David Sosna, Richard Gambino, and Kathy Pasierb for epic efforts. To the fifteen wonderful volunteers who served at the event, thank you! For the many that I missed mentioning, know that your help, time, and support of the garden is greatly appreciated.

“Mil gracias” to the Town crew who built the new bathroom: “Payo” Edwardo Gonzales, Jose Hernandez, Gabriel Campos, Xavier Lorta. Payo also generously donated the work of his private work crew. Together these guys did an awesome job!

Sincere thanks to Auctioneer, Pat Chacon; Musicians Jac Heiss and Krysa Kobyner, Joni Stellar, Marianne Shannon and Eve Spencer for flower arrangements, and Kristen Chung’s hand-painted signs.

Special thanks to Ann at the Trading Post, PRT and KPUP for promoting advance dinner ticket sales.

Huge appreciation to Kim Moreno, MorQ BBQ, for being prepared with 50 “back-up” servings … instead of the anticipated 100 people, she actually served 153 dinners!!

With your generous support we plan to make the garden more handicap accessible; host more gatherings, music, workshops etc. and fund repairs, maintenance, and our scholarship program.

Please come enjoy the garden. Volunteers are always appreciated, for an hour, a task, a week or a season.

Thank you,

Mary Sky Schoolcraft

Errors and Omissions

In the June/July 2024 edition of the Patagonia Regional Times, Gail Wingfield was cited as having constructed the original Steak Out at the crossroads of Highways 83 and 82.

According to John Cornwall, of Phoenix, his mother Marstell Cornwall and her partner John Oโ€™Rourke built the initial eatery using local labor around 1970. At that time it was known as The Running Iron.

In 1974 the restaurant was sold to Gail Wingfield and the name changed to The Steak Out.

The Wystrach family are the current owners.
