We need the right Bomo
I read recently about the series of concerning accidents just outside Patagonia on the highway. I want to offer my help in dealing with the problem.ย
Shortly after I arrived as a Peace Corps volunteer in Pontian Kachil, Malaysia, a small fishing village about the size of Patagonia, they started having accidents about a half a mile north of the town at a bend in the highway. The community became concerned and it became a frequent topic of discussion, particularly at the post office, as to what the problem was and how to fix it.
It was not long before a consensus was reached that it was a Hantu that had taken residence and was causing the problem. Hantus are mischievous ghosts or spirits that can cause a lot of trouble. The solution was to get a Bomo to move the Hantu out. Choosing the right Bomo was an important task and the town officials and leaders took on the job. Bomos are healers, medicine men, shamans. I was not there to watch the process but the Bomo determined that the Hantu worked from a large tree near the bend in the highway. The Bomo set up near the tree. It was a multi-day process, but he was the right Bomo for the job because when he was done the accidents completely stopped. Clearly we have a Hantu in Patagonia. The real challenge is to find the right Bomo.
