Kenny Hayes, superintendent of the Patagonia Schools, has responded to ‘A Plea for Music Education in Our Schools,’ an opinion piece by Pat McNamara published in the January PRT:
Mrs. McNamara’s article is incorrect about no schools offering music classes in the Sky Islands.
Patagonia Schools District employs a full-time music teacher. We provide one hour of music time a week to grades K-8. We have a 30 minute enrichment class every day at the high school and a one hour elective two days a week. We held a winter concert this year and a spring concert last year. Our HS/MS choir performed for the Santa Cruz County ASBA (Arizona School Boards Association) meeting last fall.
