On May 7, 2024, the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors announced the appointment of Mr. Alejandro I. Paz as Santa Cruz County Treasurer. Mr. Paz was appointed to replace Ms. Elizabeth Gutfahr, who resigned from the position on April 12, 2024. The appointment is valid through December 31, 2024, and Mr. Paz will begin serving in his role on May 13, 2024.
The incoming Treasurer said, “It is an honor to have been appointed to serve as the new County Treasurer of Santa Cruz County. I am excited to begin my work in the Treasurer’s Office and make a positive impact. In the short time as the appointed Treasurer, I intend to learn everything there is to know about the Treasurer’s role and the responsibilities of my office. My desire is to remain in this position for the next four years by running as a write-in candidate in the upcoming July elections.”
Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors Chairman Manuel Ruiz expressed, “On behalf of the Board of Supervisors, I want to thank the four outstanding candidates who applied. Two candidates stood out, but the Board had to select one person. Congratulations to Mr. Paz on being selected. Santa Cruz County voters can decide who they want in that position during this year’s election cycle.”
