Memorial Celebration for Nancy Calhoun

A Celebration of Life memorial in the Opera House for Nancy Calhoun will be held on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 4pm. Nancy, a former Santa Cruz Singer, was passionate about music in every shape and form. Nancy was also a published poet and community members who knew her are invited to read one of her poems during the event. At Nancy’s request, a wine and cheese social hour will follow outdoors in the Courtyard. She fought a valiant battle that ravaged her body but not her soul. Nancy Calhoun wanted everyone to remember her with joy. If you would like to participate please email Christina Wilhelm at scfpaexec@gmail.com, who will be organizing the memorial.

Zero Waste Week

Zero Waste Week, started in 2008 as an environmental campaign to reduce landfill waste, takes place annually during the first full week in September. A grass-roots campaign to demonstrate ideas and methods to reduce waste, create community support and bring awareness to the increasing problem of environmental waste and pollution. Throughout the week, the campaign encourages individuals, businesses, and organizations to be part of the solution by learning to reduce, reuse, recycle, and repurpose waste through education and innovative ideas. Ways to Participate – A few ideas to participate in Zero Waste Week are:
* Find a way to reuse or repair your old clothes instead of buying new ones.
* Replace disposable products with reusable ones, such as water bottles, coffee cups, or bags.
* Make your own snacks from package-free ingredients, such as fruits, veggies, nuts, or popcorn. * Compost food waste. * Challenge family members, co-workers, or neighbors to see who can pick up the most trash by the end of the week.
