Community News
SCC Health and Human Services Seeks Volunteers
Press Release The Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors is requesting volunteers to aid Health and Human Services at the border. Volunteers will assist staff in preparing migrants for transportation to Tucson and Phoenix. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. Training will be provided, and duties may include:
● Greeting released migrants
● Providing information to migrants
● Distributing water and snacks to migrants
● Assist staff with boarding migrants on buses
Volunteer shifts will be available from 7:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 12:00 p.m.-
6:00 p.m., Sunday through Saturday.

Sonoita Resident Arrested for Bank Robbery in Nogales

The Nogales Police Dept. have located and arrested a second suspect, Kevin Patrick Bacon of Sonoita, in connection with a bank robbery that took place on Sept. 13 at approximately 3:15pm at the First Convenience Bank located inside the Nogales Walmart. Click here to read more.
September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month
September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) is working hard to raise awareness by sharing resources that help others recognize the warning signs for suicide and know how to get help. Glimpses Into Our Past: Food Rationing During Wartime

By 1918 the U.S. allies in World War I were experiencing severe food shortages. Americans were encouraged to cut back on their use of meat, wheat, fat, and sugar so that these food resources could be sent to our troops and civilian populations in Europe. Local newspapers featured stories with recipes and advice for coping with the restrictions and the rationing. The deprivation even inspired poetry…

Due to the large number of submissions, the PRT will no longer be able to post each and every poster in our newsletter. We will share a link to your event page or poster, or a brief description of each event. Each week we will post one or two event flyers. Please share your events via email to prtasted@gmail.com at least one week prior to the event date. Poster submissions require a JPEG format along with a brief typed description about the event in your email. Submissions and or questions should be sent in email to Nisa Talavera, Assistant Editor at prtasted@gmail.com. All submissions for the Wednesday e-newsletter must be submitted by Monday, 5pm.
