On Saturday, June 21, Elgin Club president Ray Patrone presented a plaque to Jim and Ginny Cosbey of Elgin to honor their many years of service to the Elgin/Sonoita community.
The Cosbeys moved to Tucson in 1984 with their four daughters, where Jim worked in banking and investments while Ginny worked as an educator.
In 2005 the couple moved to Patagonia to manage the Circle Z Guest Ranch. They “learned lots of local history, experienced the cowboy way of life and had the opportunity to host guests from around the world,” Ginny told the PRT.
After retiring from the guest ranch, the couple moved to Sonoita in 2010 and became involved with the community. Jim was elected to the Fairgrounds board and served as president for two years. He was a founding trustee of the SCCFRA Foundation, and also served on the Empire Ranch Foundation Board.
Not to be outdone, Ginny has been President of the Elgin Club, volunteers at the Patagonia United Methodist church Thrift Shop and is a regular blood donor for the Red Cross. She is also an active member of the Elgin Club Scholarship committee and was chairman of the Christmas in Elgin annual holiday event for several years.
The Cosbeys have assisted high school seniors at PUHS in filling out their college applications and scholarship paperwork. They also have been elected to serve on local governing school boards—Jim for two terms at PUHS and Ginny at Elgin Elementary School for eight years.
Over their 60 years of married life, they have served on more than two dozen organizations’ boards, most often in officer positions.
Their future plans involve “anything that comes our way!” wrote Ginny. “Volunteering in this caring community is NOT difficult! It is a great way to meet people, help out and have fun!”
