A celebration of pies and pie lovers in all their varieties is the theme of this year’s Annual Pie Auction hosted by the Patagonia Community Garden (PCG) on Oct. 17.

PCG is encouraging the participation of the whole community, especially families. To this end, a special event has been added: a category for Junior Bakers, ages 18 and under.

Other family-friendly features include a general admission price of $10, with no charge for children 12 and under. Admission includes nonalcoholic beverages and freshly popped popcorn. Local food truck fare and alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. If you miss out on an auctioned pie, single pie slices will be available to purchase at a nominal price.

The entrance gate will open at 3 p.m. A social hour with music, refreshments and pie registration is scheduled from 3 to 4 p.m. The auction will begin promptly at 4 and end around 6 p.m.

All proceeds of the Annual Pie Auction support upkeep of Patagonia Community Garden and a scholarship to a high school senior pursuing
further education in agriculture or similar field of study.

As usual, we anticipate a delectable variety of homemade pies. Past favorites included key lime, membrillo, sweet potato and the All-American favorite apple pie. Raffle drawings will occur during the auction. The raffle team has collected an amazing array of prizes, including local wine, vacation stays, restaurant gift certificates and local artisan wares. Following the auction, the festivities will continue with plenty of pie eating, music, food truck fare and beverages.

Information about pie registration will be available soon.

All proceeds of the Annual Pie Auction support two endeavors: first, for the upkeep of PCG, and second, for a scholarship to a high school senior pursuing further education in agriculture or similar field of study.

As always, we are seeking volunteers to help with the many tasks of the auction. If you are interested, please call Janie at 520-440-3911. For more details go to patagoniacommunitygarden.org.
