This month two events are for the dogs. Patagonia Animal Lovers (PALS) has raised enough money to begin its new dog kennel and is having a ceremony at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 7, to break ground for the building. Approval to build in the flood plain has come from the town, and the permitting process with the county will soon be underway. The planned kennels will be located at the west end of the Patagonia Treatment Plant. Look for signs.

The PALS dog kennel committee: Charlie Montoy, Sue Bergier, Diane Isakson, Toni Patterson, Tami Young, Brianna Young, Hannah Young, and Sandy Young, along with Fred Sang, Brent Bowden, and architect Michael Basinger, are among the volunteers who have worked hard to raise money and get the project this far along. They hope to finish the kennels in 2015.

Everyone is invited to this community event. If you’d like to make a donation, PALS is selling bricks with the donor’s name for $50. A check can be made out to the Town of Patagonia and sent to P.O. Box 767, Patagonia AZ 85624, with a designation of “PALS.” All donations are tax deductible.

The second PALS event is a fundraiser on December 13 at 516 Harshaw Ave. from 6 to 8 p.m. “Christmas Wonderland,” held at the Youngs’ home, was a big success last year. It’s an opportunity for the whole family to enjoy the wonders of Christmas.
