Kent Callaghan of Callaghan Vineyards in Elgin won eight awards at the 2021 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition (SFCWC) on March 5. He earned Gold for 2018 Tannat; Silver for 2018 Petite Verdot and 2019 Love Muffin; and Bronze for 2019 North and South, 2019 Dry Grenache Rose, 2018 Petit Manseng, 2018 Claire’s, and 2015 Malvasia Blanc dessert wine.
Ann Roncone of Lightning Ridge Cellars in Elgin was awarded Silver for her 2017 Aglianico. Kim and Phil Asmundson of Deep Sky Vineyards earned Silver for their 2018 Malbec.
There were over 48 judges at the SFCWC, representing several North American wine regions, who evaluated nearly 5,700 wines from over 1,000 wineries. Bob Fraser, SFCWC executive director, said, “The response from the wineries of North America at our 2021 competition was outstanding this year.” SFCWC is the largest wine competition in North America.
