True or false: A woman might have driven a car with this license plate in Patagonia in the 1930s.

Answer: Absolutely false.

Why? The Civilian Conservation Corps, or CCC, was a voluntary public works program for unemployed, unmarried men aged 18-25 during the Great Depression. Women were not allowed to join, so one could not have driven this car.

The young men earned $30 a month by improving parks, forests and agricultural lands. In addition to the requirement to drive carefully, they had to send $25 of their earnings home.

Members of the CCC were active in Patagonia, especially in the Flux Canyon area, working on projects from 1939 to 1941. The program ended in 1942 when the country entered World War II.
