This Saturday: Keep an Eye Out for Cyclists on SR82

From Santa Cruz County:

This Saturday, October 26, cyclists from ALL OVER will visit Santa Cruz County to compete in the 12th Annual Nogales Bicycle Classic.

Cyclists will be on the road from approximately 7:00 am – 2:00 pm. Please be cautious and courteous!

Thank you to local law enforcement and SCC Emergency Management, who will be out to ensure everyone’s safety.

Good luck, riders, and thank you, Santa Cruz County, for making our community a great place to visit.

Cyclists participating in Nogales Bicycle Classic’s 60-mile and 80-mile competitions will be riding back and forth between Sonoita and Nogales on SR82.


The Time to Vote Is Now

Early voting in this fall’s general election has begun.

For information on everything to do with this fall’s General Election, consult the PRT 2024 Voter’s Guide to Local Elections, a free online resource that features the PRT’s text interviews, forums and Zoom interviews conducted with candidates.

PRT Video Pick: ‘All the Queen’s Horses’

Before Liz Gutfahr there was…Rita Crundwell.

In April, 2012, Crundwell was fired from her job working for the city of Dixon, Illinois โ€” hometown of Ronald Reagan, population of around 16,000.

For 22 years Crundwell had served in the appointed position as comptroller and treasurer, until, in 2012, it was discovered that Crundwell had somehow embezzled a staggering $53.7 million from the city’s coffers.

How did she do it? How could no one notice? What did she do with all the money? How did she get caught? And: who bore responsibility for the embezzlement?

All the Queen’s Horses is a 70-minute 2017 documentary film that answers all of those questions in an entertaining, enlightening way. The Patagonia Library has it on DVD. You can stream it via Amazon Prime and other streaming services. And, you can stream it for free on YouTube right here:

Elgin Woman Brightens Lives With Her Goldens

What does a retired educator with two people-loving, energetic golden retrievers do with her spare time to give back to society?

Sharon Raymond has found her answer by becoming a therapy dog handler with the help of nine-year-old Splash and three-year-old Snickers, her two golden retriever โ€˜assistants.โ€™
