We at the PRT believe that it is imperative as a democracy that we have informed and active participation in government. And we believe that local news services, like the PRT, have a mandate to take an active role in this process. We hope that the following text interviews, forums and zoom interviews conducted with candidates will assist voters in making informed decisions on their ballot.

LD 19 State Representatives

There are three candidates running for two offices. They are:

  • Lupe Diaz (Republican, incumbent)
  • Gregg Frostrom (Democrat)
  • Gail Griffin (Republican, incumbent)

Santa Cruz County District 3 Supervisor

The candidates are:

  • John Fanning (Democrat)
  • Jesus Jerez (Republican)

Santa Cruz County Treasurer

The vacuum created by the withdrawal of former Santa Cruz County Treasurer Liz Gutfahr as a candidate has been filled by two official write-in candidates:

  • Alejandro Paz (Democrat, incumbent)
  • Carola Romero (Independent)

Paz, who is currently serving as interim County treasurer, was appointed by the Board of Supervisors on May 7 to finish Gutfahrโ€™s term. Important: Click here to read the PRT’s explainer on how to write in your vote for Treasurer so that it will be counted correctly.

Santa Cruz County Assessor

The job of the County Assessor is to identify and value all taxable property in the county. Property tax bills reflect this valuation, as well as the tax rate that is set by the Board of Supervisors.

Incumbent Pablo Ramos won the July 30 Democratic primary.

Ballot Propositions
