Democrat John Fanning will succeed Bruce Bracker as County Supervisor for our district in January, 2025, having handily defeated Republican Jesus V. Jerez in yesterday’s general election.
“Thank you to the people of Santa Cruz County, and District 3, for placing your trust in me to serve as your representative on the Board of Supervisors,” Fanning said in a statement this afternoon to the PRT.
“I am deeply honored by this opportunity and committed to advocating for our communityโs needs and priorities. Together, we will work to make a positive difference in our county, and begin to rebuild the trust that has recently eroded.
“I am excited to collaborate with each of you, listening to your ideas and concerns, to create positive and lasting change. Your support has been invaluable, and I am grateful for the chance to help shape a brighter future for Santa Cruz County.”

FotoFauna highlights from September are in โ and this monthโs highlights include a couple black bears cooling off amid this late-season heat, plus a pair of ravens making an early Halloween cameo. Check out this video from our Wildlife Specialist Miguel Enrรญquez.
FotoFauna is a growing network of 290 individuals and organizations in the Sky Islands, with wildlife cameras set up in the U.S. or Mexico. Itโs easy to get started. Just set up a wildlife camera in your backyard and submit an online monthly checklist of species you observe. In addition to being fun and another way to form community, the data will help us study when and where wildlife is present so we can better protect their habitats. If you live where the wild things are, consider joining us: โโhttps://ow.ly/5C3o50TTLT7.
