May 13, 2024: The Scoping period for the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) process for the Hermosa Project begins. Public comments during the scoping period help the agency determine what actions are needed, potential alternatives, and potential issues related to the proposed action. The public scoping process is the first opportunity to submit comments to the Forest Service, the lead Federal Agency for coordination required for the South32 Hermosa Project approval. The 30-day scoping results are used to clarify public involvement methods, refine issues, select an interdisciplinary team, establish analysis criteria, and explore possible alternatives and their probable environmental effects.
