June Meeting
- The 4th annual Future Firefighters Camp 2026 welcomed 20 children ages 6 to 13 for two weeks of activities in June. Each day focused on a different topic and included physical fitness, with a strong emphasis on fun. Tricia Flaherty, who organized the event, reported that the children and firefighters all had a great time. She received a Certificate of Appreciation for her hard work and support of the event.
- Recruitment for an operations chief was postponed for a minimum of six months due to a lack of sufficient candidates.
- The number of incidents for May was 59, with a majority occurring on Sunday.
- The Board adopted a Mutual Aid Agreement for Emergency Services between Whetstone and Sonoita-Elgin Fire Districts for fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous material and rescue emergency.
- The Board also adopted a new human resources policy on donated paid time off, allowing employees to donate paid leave hours to fellow employees in the event of a serious medical situation, a circumstance that creates severe financial hardship or other appropriate circumstances as approved by the Chief.
July Meeting
- Robert “Bob” Garber resigned from the Board due to scheduling conflicts. SEFD recognized him with a Certificate of Appreciation for six years of service and for strengthening SEFD programs and processes through his work in finance, audit, and internal controls. - The number of incidents for June was 67, primarily medical in nature and occurring on the weekends.
