“If the containers reach Santa Cruz County, we are drawing a line in the sand”, Sheriff Hathaway said in a phone call with the PRT on Dec. 2, 2022. Hathaway stated that “We will be arresting and charging anyone involved in placing these containers with ‘illegal dumping on public land.'”
The container wall on the border is being constructed in Cochise County in the San Rafael Valley and is now just 6.5 miles east of Santa Cruz county. AZ Gov. Doug Ducey initiated the $95 million project in an effort to fill in “holes left in the border fence” after Pres. Biden took office.
