The PRT Newsletter for the Week of August 24, 2022

Community Calendar

The Patagonia Regional Times is pleased to offer our new Calendar of Community Events on our website. The community calendar is designed for individuals, non-profit organizations, local businesses, and government entities to publicize meetings and events that may be of interest to the community and to promote community events and activities. See online form here. Your text, photos and fliers all can be posted on the calendar.

Each announcement should include complete information on the event, who sponsors it, what it is, dates, times and location, and a local phone number and contact person for further information. If your event requires a registration, the deadline date for registration should be conspicuous so that the deadline will be announced as well as the event. Click here to read our guidelines.

E-Newsletter

We will continue to publicize events in our e-newsletter as well. The PRT may edit event content for length, corrections, text, etc. We do not post any notices in the PRT Newsletter for events that are more than three weeks away. Flyers for nonprofits, community organizations and fundraisers will be accepted. Submissions and or questions should be in email form or a word document to Nisa Talavera, Assistant Editor at prtasted@gmail.com. All submissions for the Wednesday e-newsletter must be submitted by Tuesday, 10 a.m. For more in-depth questions about calendar listings, please call 740-206-9594.

US Border Patrol Discovers Concealed Human Smuggling in Sonoita Traffic Stop

The US B0rder Patrol, Tucson Sector, reported via their Facebook. Eight Mexican citizens “dangerously concealed” in a locked/inoperable truck bed cover were discovered by Sonoita Station agents.

On Wednesday, August 17, 2022, an agent stopped a pickup truck towing a small trailer on SR-83. Suspecting the U.S. citizen driver was attempting to smuggle humans, a consent to search the covered bed was requested. The driver refused, and a K9 Team responded approximately 22 minutes later.

Following a K9 alert, agents noticed movement under the tonneau cover, indicating concealed humans were trapped inside. After struggling to open the cover, eight Mexican citizens were discovered. In approximate 85ยฐ heat, the migrants were sweating profusely and asking for water. A certified EMT agent requested EMS for a 19-year-old female who required emergency care. She was transported to a hospital in Sierra Vista, AZ, where she fully recovered. The driver faces criminal charges.

Notice of Claim – Destroyed Property Instructions

News release

The Santa Cruz County Assessor’s office would like to inform both businesses and homeowners the options that are available in the event of an unforeseen accident. This may be a result of a catastrophic fire, flood, or any other accident that may have caused significant damage in which there would be a reduction in their property value.

During this tough time, filing a Notice of Claim would be beneficial to the property owner. The Notice of Claim would not necessarily remove the property in its entirety from the tax roll but it would alleviate the tax burden until the damages have been fixed.

In case of such an event, please visit https://www.santacruzcountyaz.gov/213/Forms-Maps and complete the Notice of Claim form. The form must be submitted to the Assessor’s office either in person or by certified mail.
