Bees
By Anu Krys Africanized killer bees are dangerous, resilient, and invasive. Killer bees have become common in our area now, and after a decent winter rainy season they have been swarming in many places while enjoying the spring blossoms. They make both elevated and in-ground hives, and they are aggressive, especially in the hot afternoons. In an effort to preserve these feisty friends while keeping our community safe, Volunteer Fire & Rescue (PVFR), has initiated a program to remove and relocate swarms to more appropriate spaces. To accomplish this, PVFR has recently purchased a professional bee vacuum and has already effectively relocated four swarms this Spring. As a community, we can help this process in a number of ways. Primarily, to discourage their lodging in dangerous places, PVFR recommends that roof eve openings, as well as irrigation box openings be sealed. And as happy bees are less aggressive bees, providing water in a shallow saucer of partially submerged pebbles as well as planting more flowers helps. If a swarm is spotted in an unsafe location, immediately contact a PVFR member or call 911 to support everyoneโs safety. If you have a space on your property to keep bees and are interested in providing a home for a swarm, please contact Anu Krzys @ (520) 604-6028 for more information. Finally, if you find multiple bees becoming aggressive with you, then run far away from them. Swatting will only make matters worse. Call 911 and a PVFR will come to investigate where the swarm is lodging. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our community safe and well-pollinated.

A Note From The Patagonia Museum
The Patagonia Community Cemetery Project is a collaboration between the Patagonia Museum and Doug Gann, a 3D Digital Archaeologist, to utilize a process of three dimensional (3D) digital modeling, digital photography, and oral histories to create an interactive resource of the Patagonia Cemetery and those interred there that can be shared via the internet and the Patagonia Museum. The primary guiding principle for this effort can be summed up in the word โrespect.โ Respect for the persons interred, respect for the lives these people have led, and respect for the descendants alive today. This effort will not entail any financial liability to the Town of Patagonia and will include a drone survey by Doug Gann over the Patagonia Cemetery with markers embedded in the soil to create coordinates for accuracy and orientation. The Patagonia Museum will coordinate the oral history portion of the project. This effort has been made possible by generous support from Prestamos CDFI and the SCC Forgivable Loan Program. The Patagonia Museum is seeking volunteers to help with this project. If you are interested contact German at 520-343-5641 patagoniamuseumpresident@gmail.com
