Walker Fire Update 1100 hours on 8-07-2025
“Walker Fire update: all SEFD resources have been released. We continue to be in close contact with the USFS, who is in charge of the fire. There are no threats to our district at this time. “
8-06-2025 at 1400 hours:
Sonoita-Elgin Fire is assisting the United States Forest Service on the Walker fire, which started yesterday in the Santa Rita Mountains. There is no immediate threat to our district and we are monitoring the situation closely.

Cause: Under Investigation
Firefighters worked throughout the day with additional crews staying overnight in the Santa Rita Mountains to continue full suppression activities in response to the Walker Fire. Heat continues to prove to be a challenge for our firefighters with an increased risk of heat-related injuries. To help mitigate this hazard, firefighters plan to assist those already on the mountain early tomorrow morning.
The fire is located on the southeastern side of the Santa Rita Mountains within the Walker Basin near the Temporal Gulch.
There are no immediate values at risk.
Smoke is visible from Highway 82 from Patagonia to Sonoita, Arizona.
For your safety and the safety of the firefighters, please avoid the Temporal Canyon Road and area, as there will be additional fire traffic.

The area is under Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs). Individuals who have been determined to have endangered manned aircraft or people on the ground with a UAS and/or interfered with wildfire suppression may be subject to civil penalties, including fines of up to $25,000, and potentially criminal prosecution.

Cause: Under Investigation
Crews are currently engaged in full suppression efforts on the Walker Wildfire in the Nogales Ranger District, Coronado National Forest. This fire was reported yesterday at 5:14 pm and had little activity throughout the night. Today, the fire has moved upslope with minimal growth towards the base of the mountain. Smoke is more visible to surrounding communities due to the ignition of juniper trees in the area.
