“SO-GIN Throwdown” Wins Big for Sonoita Food Pantry

By Kati Spencer Several local wineries and restaurants joined forces last month for the SO-GIN Throwdown Block Party to collect much-needed items to stock the shelves of the Sonoita food pantry. Participating businesses were grouped into two teams based on their proximity to either Highway 82 or 83. Team GIN (Elgin) earned first place for this yearโs drive, collecting 475 items compared to 323 items from Team SO (Sonoita). “The generosity of our patrons and this community is what makes this food drive such a great success,” said Shannon Austin Zouzoulas, co-owner of Arizona Hops and Vines. “This was only the second year of the SO-GIN Throwdown, and we can’t wait to see our wine country collaboration continue to get bigger and better each year.” The teams are now tied with one win each, setting the stage for serious competition next year.
