Gary Nabhan Nabs James Beard Award for Agave Book

Patagonian ethnobotanist and author Gary Nabhan (above) won a prestigious James Beard Award last Saturday for ‘Agave Spirits: The Past, Present, and Future of Mezcals,’ the 2023 book he co-wrote with Philadelphia restaurateur and agave advocate David Sura Pinero. Nabhan and Pinero won in the ‘Beverage Writing without Recipes’ category.

Canelo Ranger Cabin Ready for Reservations

The Canelo Ranger Residence, located in the Sierra Vista Ranger District, is open now and taking reservations for overnight guests to stay in their ‘Room with a View.’ The building, also known as the Canelo ‘Big House’ was constructed in 1932-3 and served as the home of the District Ranger for the surrounding National Forest lands, then part of the Huachuca Ranger District. The PRT is published on the first Friday of every month (except July and September) and is available at these distribution points while supplies last.

Submitting Events to the PRT

The PRT is committed to sharing details and information about upcoming community events with our readers at no cost in our weekly e-newsletter. We will share a link to your event page or poster, or a brief description of each event. Please share your events via email at least one week before the event date. Poster submissions require a JPEG format along with a brief typed description about the event in your email to Nisa Talavera, Assistant Editor at prtasted@gmail.com. All submissions for the Wednesday e-newsletter must be submitted by Monday, 5pm.

The Patagonia Senior Center recently received a grant from Delta Dental of Phoenix to help seniors with dental expenses. Vouchers are provided for up to $350 to participating dentists. If interested, please call the senior center at (520) 394-2494.

The Museum has joined the Jim Click Millions for Tucson Raffle fundraiser. The grand prize is a 2024 Jeep Wrangler.100% of proceeds sold by the Patagonia Museum will benefit the museum. Patagonia Volunteer Fire and Rescue Annual Steak Fry 2024
Celebrating our 100th year of service to our community, the 47th Annual PVFR Steak Fry will be held at the town park on Sat., June 29, 4:30pm. The meal will be a steak off our famous custom-built grill, beans, coleslaw, salsa, tortilla and drink for $25.00 – Kids meals (under 15- $15.00) will substitute a hamburger for the steak. There will be a live auction, a raffle, and dancing to live music by Nightlife. Raffle tickets can be purchased from PVFR members in advance or at the event- $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00.
