Federal Authorities Charge Former County Treasurer Elizabeth Gutfahr with Three Felony Counts

Former Santa Cruz County Treasurer Elizabeth Gutfahr was charged on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, with three felony charges; embezzlement by a public official, money laundering, and tax evasion, by federal authorities at the U.S. District Court in Tucson for alleged embezzlement of more than $38.7 million in public funds.

Gutfahr is scheduled to appear at U.S. District Court in Tucson on Nov. 21. Court documents indicate she planned to enter pleas of not guilty.
