SEFD Conducting Prescribed Burn Today in Sonoita
Sonoita-Elgin Fire District (SEFD) is conducting a prescribed burn within Sonoita’s Casas Arroyo community today.
Ignitions began at 8am and will continuing throughout much of the day, weather permitting. Smoke and flames may be visible throughout the community.
The prescribed burn is part of an annual training exercise conducted by SEFD, done in conjunction with the Casas Arroyo Homeowners’ Association. Casas Arroyo is a ‘Firewise‘ community, whose members maintain a defensible space around their individual houses by routinely clearing brush. The brush is then piled in an open area, where it is burned annually by the SEFD.
A crew from Nogales is also taking part in this year’s exercise.
SEFD is updating its Facebook page with photos and information from the prescribed burn.
