Eastern SCC Sees Increase in Valuations
The total increase in full cash valuation of property in the town of Patagonia increased by 33% in 2022, according to the Santa Cruz County Assessorโs Office. The total full cash valuation in Sonoita and Elgin increased by 8.4%.This increase in tax valuation is due to increases in the market, new homes, and improvements to existing homes, Chief Deputy Assessor Edmundo Paz stated. It is important to note that these increases do not represent the increases seen by individual property owners but are a total of all valuations in each district, he said.
โFull cash values are not the value used to calculate tax bills,โ Paz wrote in a recent email. โThat would be the Limited Property Value which had an increase in both these areas of about 5% by statute unless you have made improvements, additions etc.โ The assessors can, however, continue to raise the valuation by 5% in upcoming years, which will increase property ownersโ tax bills going forward.
Although the county and the special districts did not raise the primary and secondary tax rates for 2022 โ 2023, many homeowners will see an increase in their tax bills due to higher valuations on their properties.

Household size and income criteria are used to determine eligibility for free and reduced-price benefits if the household does not receive assistance or the children are not in the other categories mentioned above. Children can get free or reduced-price meals if the householdโs gross income falls at or below the limits on the Federal Income Eligibility Guideline chart. Click here for more information .
Plans for County Building in Sonoita Unveiled

Santa Cruz County District 3 Supervisor Bruce Bracker met with a group of community members August 4 to present the plans for renovating the county building across from the Fairgrounds.
The plans call for enlarging and upgrading the Sonoita Library, a community meeting room, enlarging and moving the sheriffโs substation to the back of the building, replacing the HVAC system, and adding a satellite office for the WIOA Workforce Program, run by the Santa Cruz County Career Center. There will be an accordion wall between the library and the meeting room. Plans for a separate room for a visitorsโ center have been scrapped. Instead, the county is looking to provide a kiosk for visitor information.
Fish Consumption Advisory Issued for Patagonia Lake
The Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD), in coordination with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ), is issuing a fish consumption advisory for flathead catfish caught from Patagonia Lake in Santa Cruz County.
This advisory is based on recent analyses of fish tissue data that indicate elevated levels of mercury. ADEQ recommends that adults limit consumption of flathead catfish from Patagonia Lake to 2.5 ounces (uncooked weight) per week and children 12 and younger limit consumption to 2 ounces (uncooked weight) per month.
