Statement from Patagonia Volunteer Fire & Rescue Chief Zay Hartigan:
“There was a structure fire out Salero Road today called in at 9:40am. Patagonia Fire responded with a structure engine, two water tenders, a brush engine, a medical truck and command staff. Sonoita-Elgin Fire assisted with a structure engine and command staff.
“The two departments arrived promptly and quickly set to work containing the fire. The structure was beyond saving and was a total loss. Unfortunately the resident of the small mobile home was deceased before the first units arrived. Our hearts are with their family.
“Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating at this time.”
