Groundwater Needs Study

Recent research by the University of Arizona Water Resources Research Center has shown the Sonoita/Elgin area has proportionally more groundwater use than any other area in Santa Cruz County.

Santa Cruz County officials and out-of-state consultants are discussing zone changes to introduce increased commercial, agricultural and residential development that is not sustainable to this region’s groundwater.

As stakeholders of the Cienega Groundwater Basin, we have not been properly notified of the proposed zone changes by our representatives of Santa Cruz County other than the article in the Patagonia Regional Times.

I strongly suggest Santa Cruz County and proponents of this development commit to a comprehensive groundwater study before any zoning changes and development is deemed sustainable.

Kudos to Levowitz re Israel

Thank you, Martin, for your well thought out essay on the mess in Israel in the November issue of the PRT.

The Patagonia area is fortunate to have someone in their midst who not only reflects on complex events with clarity, but can then write objectively without rancor about them.
