The Forest Service showcased the key takeaways of its draft environmental impact statement for the potential expansion of South32’s Hermosa mining project onto public lands at a May 27 event at Patagonia Union High School.

More than 100 people attended the event, which was aimed at soliciting community feedback on growth and protection of the area’s resources and landmarks.

After the groundbreaking ceremony for Hermosa’s remote operating center in Nogales, South32’s Pat Risner discussed the ongoing negotiations for a Community Protection and Benefit Agreement.

Roads, traffic, the bridge over Babocomari Creek, the county annex in Sonoita and the District 3 citizens advisory committee were among the topics covered at the April 12 Elgin Club community dinner.
