From a young age, Julie Rodriguez has pursued a love of learning through science and engineering. She completed her first science-fair projects in elementary school and continued her interests as a Elgin Middle School student, researching and developing award-winning projects, encouraged by her science teacher, Mrs. Annette Koweek. As an Andrada Polytechnic High School student, Julie’s yearly engineering projects have gained her recognition and prizes at science and engineering fairs at the school district (Vail), regional (SARSEF), state (AzSEF), national and international (ISEF) levels. Julie also enjoys hands-on studies of biology and veterinary science.
Julie’s favorite classes were her career education courses at Andrada, in which she earned technical certificates in both Engineering and Veterinary Assisting. Combining her interests of biology and engineering, she will major in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Arizona this fall, at which she has accepted admission to the Honors College and the College of Engineering.
At Andrada High School, Julie was ranked in the top 10 of her graduating class and was in the scholars program. She was the president of National Honor Society and the president of Science Club. She was also an active member and officer of several other school clubs, including SkillsUSA Engineering, the VEX Robotics team, HOSA (future healthcare leaders), Girls Who Code, and Link Crew.
