Drink Pink! Celebrate National Rosé Day in Arizona's Original Wine Country

National Rosé Day is one of the first signs summer is coming to Arizona wine country. Sonoita and Elgin wineries will mark the annual celebration on Saturday, June 14 with special pairings, discounts, live entertainment and more.

“This is a great opportunity to explore all things pink, from bubbly to savory, and from pale pink to deep salmon color,” said Sonoita Vineyards Winemaker Lori Reynolds. “Rosé wines also are incredibly versatile, perfect for pairing with summer dishes.”

Many modern rosé wines are made be pressing red wine grapes within a few hours of being harvested. With less maceration time (how long the juice is in contact with the grape skins) than red wine, rosé produces an array of pink hues.

Production of the sexy pink drink dates back more than 2,500 years but was often made by diluting still red wines with drinking water. Combining water with wine, which contains alcohol, removed bacteria that cause illness such dysentery, making these ancient rosé wines the preferred way to hydrate.

More than half of the wine tasting rooms in the Sonoita-Elgin area will be offering deals and events to celebrate the wine Julia Child claimed could be served with anything.
