Preparing for the 4th of July Parade

4th of July Celebration Parade – 11:00am starting (staging for floats starts at 10am) at the Patagonia Schools and proceeding West on SR82 to Fourth Avenue, turning left onto fourth and then turning left onto McKeown Ave. continuing down to Taylor Avenue where it will then return to the Patagonia Schools. The Patagonia Volunteer Fire and Rescue will have its annual fireworks display at the HS soccer field. Donations for Fireworks can be mailed to: TOWN OF PATAGONIA PO Box 767, Patagonia, AZ 85624. If you wish to participate in the parade, bring a float, bike, horse, truck, old car, or walk in the parade. The Town of Patagonia is enforcing “NO WATER BALLOONS, etc.” to be thrown or sprayed on the parade participants.


PRT to Present Sheriff Candidatesโ€™ Forum in Patagonia This Saturday

The PRT is hosting a Santa Cruz County Sheriff Candidates Forum this Saturday, June 29, from 2 โ€“ 4:30pm at the Tin Shed Theater in Patagonia.

Six candidates are confirmed to participate, including the incumbent, Sheriff David Hathaway (Dem), and five challengers: Jose โ€œJoeโ€ Agosttini (Dem), Travis Arnold (I), Rafael โ€œRafitaโ€ Corrales (Dem), Andrew Ibarra (Dem) and Mario โ€œToroโ€ Morales (Dem). The event will be moderated by State Superior Court Judge Thomas Fink.

Doors open at 1:30pm, and seating is limited. The forum will be streamed live on Facebook. Click here for all the details.

Voters to Elect County Treasurer From Field of Write-in Candidates

The withdrawal of ex-Santa Cruz County Treasurer Liz Gutfahr as a candidate in the Nov. 5 election means that no candidate’s name will appear on July 30 primary ballotsโ€”and only certain ‘write-in’ names will actually be counted. Click here to read how we got here, and what happens next.

Brenda Ann Braswell 1945 – 2024

A memorial service will be held at the Elgin Community Club, 475 Elgin Road, Elgin, Arizona, on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 11:00 am. Lunch will follow the service, and while contributions of desserts are appreciated, they are not necessary. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sonoita-Elgin Fire Department, 3173 AZ-83, Sonoita, AZ 85637. The arrangements are being handled by Desert Rose Heather Cremation and Burial in Tucson, Arizona. Local Bit Maker Carrying on Western Tradition

Elgin welcomed yet another fine craftsman to the area when New Mexico native Kim Parkey and his wife Karen built their house and settled here in 2019. Parkey, a bit and spur maker for over 30 years, is a horseman, a roper and a metal worker whose custom bits are sought after by world famous horse trainers and competitors for their fine quality and craftsmanship.

We will share a link to your event page or poster, or a brief description of each event. Please share your events via email at least one week before the event date. Poster submissions require a JPEG format along with a brief typed description about the event in your email to Nisa Talavera, Assistant Editor at prtasted@gmail.com. All submissions for the Wednesday e-newsletter must be submitted by Monday, 5pm.

Patagonia Volunteer Fire and Rescue Annual Steak Fry 2024
Celebrating 100th year of service to our community, the 47th Annual PVFR Steak Fry will be held at the town park on Sat., June 29, 4:30pm. The meal will be a steak off our famous custom-built grill, beans, coleslaw, salsa, tortilla and drink for $25.00 – Kids meals (under 15 $15) will substitute a hamburger for the steak. There will be a live auction, a raffle, and dancing to live music by Nightlife. Raffle tickets can be purchased from PVFR members in advance or at the event- $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. The Patagonia Senior Center recently received a grant from Delta Dental of Phoenix to help seniors with dental expenses. Vouchers are provided for up to $350 to participating dentists. If interested, please call the senior center at (520) 394-2494.
