The PRT Newsletter for the Week of December 14, 2022

It’s so hard to believe that there are a little more than two weeks left in 2022! Here at the Patagonia Regional Times, this also means that there are only 18 days left for us to raise $5307 before the end of our annual fundraising campaign. Our generous supporters have donated $21,693 so far, but we need to raise a total of $27,000 to reach our fundraising goal.

The funding we raise during NewsMatch will set us up for 2023 – sustaining the kind of journalism that you’ve come to expect from us and making possible some new ventures. Each month it costs the PRT more than $9000 to offer, free of charge to our readers, our monthly print edition, our weekly e-newsletter and our continually updated website.

But without you, this list is just a list. With you, we can turn these dreams into reality. The PRT board has pledged $2805 this year to help support out important work. Can we count on you to match this amount by December 31?

Breaking News

Photo By Susan Mast A protester surveys several gaps at connection points of the containers along the container border wall. Contractors are instructed to weld metal pieces and or stuff the gaps with razor wire. Some gaps are filled within a few days while other areas are left open for weeks.

The Department of Justice filed suit today seeking a court order to immediately halt further construction of Gov. Doug Ducey’s makeshift cargo container wall in Coronado National Forest along the U.S.-Mexico border. The wall there is now almost four miles long. The federal government told U.S. District Court Judge Susan Brnovich in Phoenix today that the containers “damage federal lands, threaten public safety, and impede the ability of federal agencies and officials, including law enforcement personnel, to perform their official duties.” Click here to read more.
