Landowner Andrew Jackson has formally withdrawn his controversial applications to reclassify over 3,500 acres of land in Rio Rico, according to a press release late this afternoon from Santa Cruz County Community Development Director Frank Dillon.

As a result, a Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors hearing scheduled for the Aug. 15 County Board of Supervisors meeting regarding one of the applications has been canceled.

Jackson’s ambitious proposal, introduced to the general public in mid-June, has been met with escalating criticism from local residents, as well as from regional and national environmental organizations.

Here is the notice for the cancellation of the public hearing, followed by Dillon’s press release.
