By all accounts, conditions are getting really good in our area bass lakes. Those that want to get out and sample some good to great largemouth bass and panfish action should start planning.

Lower elevation lakes like Patagonia and to some extent, Arivaca, should be at the top of anglers’ lists as the post-spawning bass start feeding with gusto.

In the next couple of weeks, Pena Blanca and Parker Canyon should also start producing.

For the conventional gear angler, working a variety of crank baits and worms along the structure should produce results. Perhaps trying surface lures towards evening could also produce results.

Fly fishers should apply similar tactics. Working shoreline structure from a boat or float tube with sink tip lines should result in tugs.

Fly fishers should also be observant of dragonflies and damselflies hatching in or near shoreline reeds. Fishing semi-seal leeches in sizes 8-6 are a good imitation of both, and generally produce good results. Failing that, try fishing bright clouser minnows and keelex streamers. If those are working, try darker colored streamers.
