Santa Cruz County Files Civil Lawsuit against the Arizona Auditor General

Nogales, AZ – On November 14, 2024 Santa Cruz County filed a civil lawsuit in Maricopa County Superior Court against the State of Arizona and Lindsey A. Perry, Auditor General of the State of Arizona for negligence in failing to comply with generally accepted accounting practices and principles enabling the embezzlement of nearly $39 million by former Treasurer, Elizabeth Gutfahr.

The Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors released the following statement:

“The Board is hopeful that this litigation will prompt the Auditor General to strengthen safeguards, ensuring alignment with generally accepted accounting principles, so that no other county or public entity relying on their audits will endure the abuses inflicted on our community.”
