Rotarian Sue Archibald gives out books to Patagonia Elementary School students for Valentines Day.

Scholarship applications are now available, awarded to high school seniors (including home schoolers) in recognition of their potential for success and desire to make a difference.

This scholarship is to assist those students whose potential is demonstrated by their extra-curricular activity and their student life participation. Applicants must be a high school senior residing in one of the following zip codes: 85624, 85637, 85611, and 85621.

The student must be academically motivated per a school transcript, an essay, and acceptance to an accredited post-secondary institution or vocational program. Awards of $1,000 will be sent directly to the school to defray tuition, and may be renewable for another year. Applications are due by March 31, 2019. The application forms can be obtained from Anne Gibson, AnneMMcChesney@gmail.com.

The Mountain Empire Rotary Club continues to support our local students with the Student of the Month awards of $100. The following PUHS students have been recognized by their teachers and awarded: Aspen Miller, Damian Castro, Jesus Lopez Barreda, Isaiah Angel Ruiz, John Hubbell, and Gideon Elefson.

Additionally, efforts are well underway for the Mountain Empire Rotary Career Fair at PUHS, Friday March 8th. Many local and national companies, military branches, law enforcement and emergency service agencies, and post-secondary institutions are on-board to be present and share programs with students. It’s a tremendous opportunity for our students to be motivated and pursue their next path. If you’d like to participate please contact Randy Heiss, rheiss@seago.org.

Valentines Day was commemorated with the special event/distribution of a new book and reading session for each Pre-Schooler & Kindergartener at Patagonia Elementary School by Rotarians Sue Archibald and Reba Webber on behalf of the club. This program compliments our Birthday Book given to EVERY student at the Patagonia and Elgin/Sonoita public schools on their birthday.

Last, but certainly not least, our primary annual fundraiser, the Fred Sang Memorial Golf Tournament has been scheduled for Saturday November 2. Not only is it a super fun event but it funds most of the valuable and amazing work we do in the community.

Our Rotary motto this year is “Be The Inspiration.” If you’d like to engage in any of our many projects contact Susan Scott, susanscott15@msn.com for membership information. We welcome anyone who wants to “be the difference” in building a stronger community. Rotarians are “People of Action!”
