UPDATE, Sunday 7PM from AZ Forestry, which took command of Longview Fire earlier today:

“Crews have stopped forward progress on Longview Fire, 553 acres. All evacuations have been lifted. The fire started Sunday afternoon as a structure fire that spread to the wildland.”

A “large scale wildfire incident” is underway in Elgin.

Crews from Sonita-Elgin, Patagonia, Rio Rico, Nogales and Whetstone are responding to the fire.

Evacuation has been ordered for residents of Longview Loop Road. Longview Loop is North of Hwy 83/Hillcrest and west of Elgin Canelo Rd.

Residents in the adjoining area should be ready to evacuate.

Elgin-Canelo residents who have been evacuated should report to Our Lady of the Angels at 22 Los Encinos Road, Sonoita, AZ 85637.

A livestock shelter accepting large animals has been established at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds (3142 S. Highway 83 in Sonoita). Owners need to provide food and water buckets.

A shelter for evacuating residents has been established at the Patagonia Community United Methodist Church in Patagonia (387 McKeown Ave, Patagonia, AZ 85624).

Residents are encouraged to sign up for the Santa Cruz County Alert System for “Emergency Management Alert” notices.
