Borderlands Restoration Network Hosts 35 Regional Experts at Annual Field School

Community invited to two public events

Patagonia, AZ, June 15, 2019 – Borderlands Restoration Network (BRN) will begin its third annual Field School on July 15 – August 8, 2019. BRN Field School is an immersive practical training course designed to inspire the next generation of environmental leaders in the Sky Islands.

Participants participate in comprehensive, experiential and immersive practical training courses that focus on the social and ecological issues of the southern Arizona and northern Mexico borderlands region. Curriculum includes a series of integrated lectures, workshops, field trips and hands-on learning opportunities that cover a wide breadth of topics spanning technical skills in plant propagation to the foundational principles of a restoration economy, all guided by a diverse set of leading experts in their respective fields.

What: Movie Night with BRN: Agave is Life

Description: Texas-based archaeologists Meredith Driess and David Brown take the viewer on a 10,000 year visual exploration of the symbiotic relationship between agave and the humans who have depended upon it.

Event is free, open to the public including a brief presentation prior from BRN staff, and a Q & A following the film. BRN Native Plant Nursery will also have agave pups for sale following the film.

Description: Join Reverend John Fife, founder of the Sanctuary Movement and co-founder of No More Deaths/No Más Muertes for a presentation on humanitarian aid in the borderlands, and take a look at the history of border issues from colonization to NAFTA, concluding with what’s happening on the border today. Event is free, open to the public.
